Meet the Leadership Team Event @ MRS Annual Conference

I’m sure anyone in attendance would agree that the MRS Conference was as insightful as ever, bringing together a wide range of professionals from across the research industry. With so many people, it was a great opportunity to connect with industry peers, exchange ideas, and get inspired by the latest trends shaping our field.

Amidst the main conference sessions, it was particularly rewarding to take a moment to hold space for the newest generation of researchers. The &more event was a dedicated space for early-career professionals to network, share their experiences, and discuss their first steps into the world of research—all over a well-earned prosecco or two. Jumping between conversations, I overheard a variety of discussions spanning from career transitions to the unexpected paths that led people into the industry. We also had a range of backgrounds, including someone who had flown over from New York to the UK to start a new research role (!) - a testament to how global and ever-evolving this space truly is.

After a few welcome drinks, the &More team were also welcome to join the closing Keynote speech from Dr. Tali Sharot, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience. Her talk explored the crossover between research and psychology, offering insights into subconscious influences on peoples’ decision making. Given my own background in psychology, this was a real highlight—hearing her perspectives on behavioural science and its practical applications within research was incredibly relevant.

Overall, the day was a brilliant mix of forward-thinking discussion, industry connections, and deep dives into essential topics such as AI, psychology, and the future of research. It was fantastic to see so many people, both experienced professionals and new faces, coming together to explore where research is heading next.
